With freezing temperatures, we suggest covering your plants to protect them. Here are some of our tips.

  • The most effective product to use for covering plants is freeze cloth. However, suitable alternatives are sheets, blankets, and cardboard. We do not recommend using plastic tarps

  • Cover plants before sunset to trap in warmer air.

  • Placing non-LED string lights under the covers will emit small amounts of heat for the plants.

  • When watering plants before a cold snap, do so midday when temperatures are still warm. Moistening the soil helps it stay warm and insulates the plant roots in freezing weather. Dry plants can suffer more damage than well watered plants. Although damp soil is good, sopping soil is not during a freeze. Please note on very cold days (<40 degrees), we do not recommend watering at all.

  • Do not use plastic material like tarps or plastic drop cloth. They are not breathable and trap moisture, which can damage your plants further.

  • Bring potted plants inside so they can stay cozy.
